The history
of Capo Iazzo

A typical Apulian
'iazzo'

Capo Iazzo was built towards the end of the 19th century in Gioia del Colle as the main detachment of the nearby Masseria Vallata. It was born as an ‘iazzo’, a typical structure of the Apulian Murgia built along the ancient sheep-tracks of transhumance and intended as a shelter for animals grazing on those territories.

The Capurso
family

Since 1937 Masseria Capo Iazzo has been inhabited by the Capurso family, who have dedicated themselves with passion and commitment to caring for the land and breeding animals, such as the Murgia cows and horses, which have made work in the fields easier and allowed them to move around the farm.

Capo Iazzo
today

Today the farm is managed by Giovanni, the third generation of the Capurso family to lead Capo Iazzo, and his wife Paola, both specialised breeders of the Murgese horse. Every activity on the farm continues to be carried out with respect for the environment, the land and the needs of the animals that still live there, with an eye always turned to innovations in the sector.

The farm

The Masseria Capo Iazzo occupies an area of 155 hectares, divided between woods, pastures and areas cultivated with Senatore Cappelli wheat and fodder. Catering activities and the organisation of small events take place inside an old stone structure. The availability of ample space and the farm’s precious natural heritage allow for the organisation of educational, experiential and relaxation days with the Murgese horse and all the other animals that live on the farm.

Paola Di Noya

Paola  is a specialised breeder of the Murgese horse and, together with her husband Giovanni, manages all activities at Masseria Capo Iazzo. Her passion for the Apulian horse breed began when she was young, after meeting the stallion Dado, a magnificent specimen with baroque lines, sweet eyes and a big heart, with whom she fell deeply in love.

Giovanni Capurso

Giovanni was born in Capo Iazzo and grew up among Murgese horses, for which he nurtured a great passion right from the start. fter finishing his studies, he already knows he wants to become a breeder of this extraordinary horse breed. So he decides to stay on the farm, devoting himself full-time to the stallions and mares of his breeding farm and taking care of every aspect of their training.
