Projects and collaborations
Participation in relevant initiatives to raise awareness of the Murgese horse breed.
Educational and
social activities
Over the years we have distinguished ourselves as a social farm, hosting and taking part in various initiatives such as Murgesi in Movimento and C.E.R.U.A., aimed at a group of pre-adolescents with various difficulties, which demonstrated the benefits of practising recreational horse riding. The children attended the centre for three afternoons a week for six months. They practised activities with horses, received school support and held workshops with the psychotherapist.
PSRN Project
A.N.A.R.E.A.I.
In the field of research, we took part in theProject PSRN EQUINBIO.2 ofA.N.A.R.E.A.I. which, in collaboration with the Universities of Parma and Perugia, deals with the characterisation of genetic resources of animals of zootechnical interest and the safeguard of biodiversity. n particular, the Masseria Capo Iazzo was involved in survey activities in a controlled environment. On a sample of Murgese horses of similar physical condition, of the same sex and age, in environments with similar management, feeding and breeding conditions for all subjects, several tests were carried out at regular periodic intervals to verify the physical, behavioural and temperamental characteristics in response to the work stress to which the horses were subjected.
Through these measurements, compared with the genetic ancestry of the individual specimen, we aim to determine with increasing precision the genetic diversity of the bloodlines of the horse breed best suited for aptitude work.
Our ideal is that the horses at the Capo Iazzo stud farm find a forever family, people who are passionate and ready to commit to a long-term relationship with their horse. For this, we aim to select specimens that are morphologically correct, healthy and characteristically predisposed to a relationship with humans.
Equine Colostrum
Bank Project:
the Murgese Horse
Masseria Capo Iazzo, as a stud farm specialised in breeding Murgese horses, is collaborating with other partners (UNIBAS-SAFE, UNIBA-DISAAT, ARA PUGLIA, FARMALABOR SRL, DARE) and breeders on the “Equine Colostrum Bank: The Murgese Horse”.
The project aims to improve the profitability of Murgese horse breeding farms, protecting this precious biodiversity characterising the Apulian agro-livestock landscape. It implements with the farms actions aimed at the valorisation of colostrum, evaluating its qualitative and immunological characteristics and selecting an adequate number of mares in order to create an “Equine Colostrum Bank” to support the farms. Colostrum will also be used to create anti-ageing cosmetic products.
